Instant ON Solutions Needed for the Port of Long Beach Microgrid

Long Beach Microgrid Schneider Electric Solar PV Sustainability Resiliency Efficiency Green

In October of 2018, Schneider Electric won a contract with Long Beach to design, engineer and build a new microgrid to enable critical energy resilience at the Port of Long Beach in California. The microgrid installation was intended to bolster energy resilience and ensure business continuity at all of the marine terminals. Original press information can be seen here

Published two years later, Microgrid Knowledge reported on ongoing challenges with this project. See: https://microgridknowledge.com/long-beach-california-microgrid/

This article shows the challenges of designing a microgrid around so many factors that impact the efficacy and economics of the project. Making sure that a microgrid not only performs the function of providing power in the case of emergencies but also adheres to policy and rebate guidelines creates more challenges that must be overcome.

Instant ON (IO) has seen how the convergence of need and know-how can help speed up the integration of these microgrids. We are fortunate to work with companies, engineers and technologies that allow us to look past this and continue to implement these solutions to expedite the protection of businesses and communities with advanced microgrid solutions the perform and adhere to policy and incentive guidelines.

In working with many microgrid technologies and integrators, IO has taken the necessary precautions to ensure that we have all the right equipment, technologies and monitoring in place to ensure that the system not only performs, but it will comply. At the end of the day, everyone just wants the project to be built and running properly so that we can move on the help more customers.
