Power Outage Affecting California Police Department

On March 29th, a blown transformer in Scotts Valley California left police officers and emergency responders in the dark as their telephone and radio dispatch systems went down with the rest of the community. The power went out around 7:55 PM and wasn't restored until early the next morning. That meant that for several hours the police and emergency response services were unreachable. Now there were no incidents during this time frame and the police department is looking to make adjustments for the future.

This is a cause of major pause, especially during these precarious times. If the unthinkable happens the first thought is to call 911 and have emergency responders rush to the scene. As the threat of COVID-19 looms over the country, it has never been more important that our emergency response services be shored up. Our dependence on these services is highlighted by the mere thought that they may not be available in an emergency. Crucial services like the Police and Emergency response teams need to be protected so that even if the power is down, they can still hear you.
